Selling FreeStyle Supplies: What We Buy and What It's Worth

FreeStyle covers two quite different families of product, and knowing which one you're holding makes everything else simpler.

There's the Libre continuous glucose monitoring line — sensors and readers across three generations — and there are the fingerstick test strips: FreeStyle Lite, FreeStyle, and InsuLinx. We buy all of it. Each category above has its own page with live rates, because the pricing logic genuinely differs between them.

• Libre 3 sensors — four listings, including the Plus version, a DME variant, and the reader.
• Libre 2 sensors — standard, Plus, and reader. Still widely prescribed, and steadily being replaced.
• Libre 14-Day sensors — the original US generation. The one most likely to be sitting unused, and the one with the least time to spare.

Test strips

• FreeStyle Lite — retail and non-retail, 100ct and 50ct.
• FreeStyle — the original strips, a different product from Lite despite the similar box.
• InsuLinx — a legacy product we still actively buy.

The Three Things That Set the Price

Across everything on this page, the rate comes down to some combination of:

1. Time left before expiration. Applies to every sensor and every box of strips. The more months remaining, the more it's worth. We buy only the windows currently listed on each product page, and those windows move as our stock turns over.
2. Which exact version it is. Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus are different products. FreeStyle and FreeStyle Lite are different products. Retail and non-retail cartons of the same strip are priced separately. Reading the box beats going from memory.
3. Condition — and for readers, condition is the only factor, because hardware has no expiration date.

Dated Stock Loses Value. Readers Don't.

This is the most useful thing to understand before you sell. Sensors and strips carry expiration dates, and every month that passes moves them toward a lower tier and eventually outside the windows we can buy at all. Readers have no date on them — a clean, working unit is worth the same next year as it is today.

So if you're holding a mix, deal with the dated stock first, oldest generation first, and get to the readers whenever it suits you. People routinely wait to "sort it all out at once" and lose most of the value of the sensors while doing it.

And do check for readers. The Libre line works with a phone app, so the reader supplied with a prescription very often went straight into a drawer unopened.

What We Can't Buy, Across the Whole FreeStyle Range

• Anything funded by Medicare or Medicaid. Government-funded supplies — usually carrying an orange label — cannot legally be resold. This applies to every product on this page without exception.
• Opened or unsealed boxes. Sensor cartons and strip vials must be factory sealed.
• Damaged packaging. Crushed corners, water staining, torn labels, pen or marker on the carton.
• Product outside the expiration windows currently listed on the relevant page.
• Loose sensors or vials with no original box — we can't verify the part number or the date.
• Readers with cracked screens, water damage, or that won't power on. Cosmetic wear is fine.

Why There's So Much Unused FreeStyle Product

The Libre line has moved faster than almost any other CGM — 14-Day, then Libre 2, then Libre 3, then Plus versions of both. Every step leaves people holding the previous generation, and because prescriptions ship 90 days at a time, the change almost always lands after the next batch has already arrived.

Test strips accumulate more quietly. A prescription assumes a certain number of tests a day, real life doesn't match it, and the surplus builds over months. Then someone moves to a CGM and stops fingersticking almost entirely, or changes meters, or a plan year resets the covered brand.

And some of it arrives here because a family has been left with a cupboard of sealed boxes and no idea what to do with them. In every case the product is good, sealed and already paid for — it's simply in the wrong house.

Yes, provided they weren't paid for by Medicare or Medicaid. Supplies bought outright or covered by commercial insurance are yours to sell. Government-funded product is not.

What's the difference between FreeStyle and FreeStyle Lite?

Different strips for different meters, priced separately. Match the exact wording on your carton to the right page.

Do you buy Libre readers?

Yes, across all three generations. Readers have no expiration date and are graded on condition instead.

Can I send strips and sensors in the same shipment?
