Not everything worth selling is a box of brand-name test strips. This section covers the items that get thrown away most often — pen needles and store-brand strips — because people assume there is no market for them. There is.
BD pen needles: length and gauge
Pen needles are among the most over-supplied items in diabetes care. They come in 100 counts, people change pens or move to a pump, and unopened boxes pile up. Every box is identified by two printed numbers — needle length in millimetres and gauge.
Gauge runs backwards. A higher number means a thinner needle, so 32G is finer than 31G, which is finer than 29G. We buy BD Nano at 4mm x 32G, 5mm x 31G, Ultra Fine Micro at 6mm x 32G, 8mm x 31G, and the long-needle Ultra-Fine at 12.7mm x 29G.
One quirk worth catching before you quote: the 12.7mm x 29G box contains 90 needles, not 100. That is the full retail count for that product. Every other BD listing here is a 100.
ReliOn: the store brand that people write off
ReliOn is Walmart's own-brand glucose system, and it is bought here in both of its strip lines — ReliOn Premier in 50 and 100 counts, and ReliOn Prime in 50 and 100 counts.
Two things people get wrong about these. First, they assume a store brand has no resale value. It does — ReliOn is one of the most widely used low-cost systems in the country and the strips are in constant demand. Second, Prime and Premier are not the same system. The meters are different and the strips are not interchangeable, so read which word is on the box before matching a listing. They are quoted separately for that reason.
Retail boxes, sealed
Everything in this section is bought as a sealed retail box — the printed outer carton as it left the shelf, unopened, with the contents untouched inside. If your items arrived loose, bagged, or in a plain supplier carton, photograph them and ask before shipping rather than guessing.
Expiration
Pen needles and store-brand strips are dated exactly like the brand-name lines, and remaining shelf life is the biggest factor in what a box is worth. We describe our requirement in months of remaining life rather than a fixed calendar date, because the windows we buy in change from time to time as demand shifts. The listings above are always the live version — match your box, read the requirement on that listing, then check the printed date.
Condition
Factory sealed, unopened, no writing on the box, no torn patches where a pharmacy label was removed, no water staining, no crushed corners. An opened box cannot be resold and cannot be quoted even when the contents are untouched.
Worth adding to a shipment you are already sending
Items in this section are lower value per box than a box of Dexcom sensors or Contour Next strips. That is not a reason to leave them out. If you are already boxing up a shipment, the marginal cost of adding your pen needles and ReliOn strips is nothing, and it turns a pile that was heading for the bin into part of the payment.
