Selling Precision Xtra test strips and meters
The Precision Xtra is Abbott's dual-purpose meter, and that is the thing to understand before you sell anything from this line. The same handheld reads two different tests depending on which strip you put in it, and the two strip types are listed separately.
One meter, two tests
A Precision Xtra meter takes Precision Xtra glucose strips to read blood sugar, and Precision Xtra ketone strips to read blood ketones. Very few meters do both. That is why the system has stayed in circulation long after other meters of its generation disappeared, and why the strips still have a market.
If you have a pile of Precision Xtra boxes, sort them by what is printed on them first. Glucose strips belong on this page. Ketone strips have their own listing and their own value, and should not be quoted against the glucose counts.
Counts: 50 and 100
Precision Xtra glucose strips are listed in retail 50 and retail 100 counts. Quote from the number printed on the box rather than from box size, and match your box to the listing above rather than assuming.
The meter is worth listing on its own
We buy sealed, unused Precision Xtra meters as a separate item. Two reasons this is worth acting on:
- Meters do not expire. There is no date to check and no shelf life to lose. A meter that has been in a drawer for years is worth exactly what one bought last month is worth.
- Households often have spares. Meters are given away cheaply or free to seed strip sales, so people who have used this system for any length of time frequently have an unopened second or third one they have forgotten about.
If you are clearing out supplies and there is a boxed meter in the pile, do not leave it out of the quote.
Expiration on the strips
Remaining shelf life is the biggest single factor in what a strip box is worth. We express our requirement in months of remaining life rather than a fixed calendar date, because the windows we buy in change from time to time as demand moves. The listings above are always the live version — read the requirement on the listing that matches your box, then check the printed date.
If your date falls short of what the listing asks for, we are not buying that box at the moment. It is better to establish that before you pay to ship it.
Condition
Strip boxes must be factory sealed and unopened — no writing, no torn patches where a label was removed, no water damage, no crushed corners. Meters must be sealed in their original packaging. An opened strip box cannot be resold and cannot be quoted, even with the vial inside untouched.
How to sell
Match each item to a listing above, send us photos so we can confirm the identification and the dates before anything ships, and we cover the shipping. Payment goes out within one business day of the shipment arriving and being checked, and Zelle usually lands within minutes. If anything does not match the quote, we tell you what it was and why before finalising.
Why sell your Precision Xtra supplies here
We have been buying diabetic supplies since 2012 across more than 150,000 transactions, with an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. Precision Xtra is an older system that some buyers have stopped handling. We still buy the strips, the ketone strips and the meters. Free shipping, quote first, no guessing.
